Every Easter the Rotary Club of Forster on Wallis hosts a duck race in Wallis Lake at Forster to raise funds on behalf of a nominated local not-for-profit organisation.
The Easter Duck Race provides some colour and entertainment for the huge crowds that flock to Forster for the Easter weekend.
There are actually 2 races. The Celebrity Duck Race is restricted to 100 ducks and is aimed at local business houses who pay $20 for an entry. The monies raised are used by the Rotary Club of Forster on Wallis to support a range of local Rotary Youth programs (Youth Exchange, RYAG, Public Speaking etc).
The Easter Duck Race involves the whole flock of 1000 ducks and is aimed at the individual or family, in particular children. You can purchase a single entry for around $2.50 or cheaper for multiple entries. The monies raised by this event are donated directly to a different local not-for-profit organisation each year.
Both races involve cash prizes for first, second and third.
Look out for people selling Duck Race entires in the two weeks leading up to Easter and then come down and watch from the Memorial Avenue boardwalk on Easter Sunday. This start time will vary with the tide, we don't want the little ducks heading off the New Zealand.
